Deactivate “Where is?” On your devices

You should deactivate “Where is?” Before selling, giving away, or trading in a device. If you turn off Find My on a device, the device will be removed from your device list and Activation Lock will be deactivated.

If you no longer have the device, you can use Find My iPhone on iCloud.com to remove it from your account.

Note: If you just don't want to share your location temporarily, you can hide it. See Share your location in the Find My app ”in the Find My Mac User Guide.

Deactivate “Where is?” On your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

Do one of the following on your device:

  • iOS 13, iPadOS 13 (or newer): Go to Settings> [your name] ">" Where is? "And deactivate" My [device] search". Enter your Apple ID password and tap “Deactivate”.

  • iOS 12 (or older): Select "Settings"> "[your name] ">" ICloud "and deactivate" My [device] search". Enter your Apple ID password and tap “Deactivate”.

Deactivate “Where is?” On a Mac

On the Mac, choose the Apple menu > "System settings" and then proceed as follows:

  • macOS 10.15 (or newer): Click Apple ID> iCloud, then turn off Find My Mac. Enter your Apple ID password and click "Next".

  • macOS 10.14 (or older): Click on "iCloud" and deselect "Find My Mac". Enter your Apple ID password and click "Next".

Deactivate “Where is?” On an Apple Watch

  1. On your Apple Watch, press and hold the Side button until the sliders appear, then drag the Shut Down slider to the right.

  2. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. Tap My Watch, then tap your Apple Watch at the top.

  3. Tap and then on "Unpair Apple Watch".

  4. In Find My iPhone on iCloud.com, click All Devices, then select Apple Watch.

    If you can't see All Devices, it is because you have already selected a device. Click the name of the currently selected device in the center of the toolbar to access the Devices list, then select a new device.

  5. Click on "Remove from Account".

If a family member set up your Apple Watch, you can turn off Find My on your Apple Watch. Go to Settings> [your name] ">" Where is? ", Turn off Find My Watch, then enter your Apple ID password.

Deactivate “Where is?” On AirPods or on a Beats product

  1. Stow AirPods in their case. Depending on the model of your Beats product, stow it in its case or press the on / off button.

  2. Unpair them in the Bluetooth settings on all of your devices.

    • On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Go to Settings> Bluetooth, tap next to your AirPods or the Beats product. Tap Ignore This Device, then tap again to confirm.

    • On your Mac: Go to the "Apple" menu > "System settings" and click on "Bluetooth". Click on and then on "Ignore this device".

  3. In Find My iPhone on iCloud.com, click All Devices, then choose AirPods or Beats product.

    If you can't see All Devices, it is because you have already selected a device. Click the name of the currently selected device in the center of the toolbar to access the Devices list, then select a new device.

  4. Click on "Remove from Account".

Note: You can also turn off Find My on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac by turning off iCloud entirely on the device. When you turn off iCloud, all iCloud features are turned off on the device.
