How to Fix Message Tone on iPhone

Question: Q: Message tone despite "silent" mode

Nobody seems to have commented on this for a long time. If you want to take up the topic again, just ask a new question.

Question: Q:

I've had this problem with all of my iPhones so far - now also on the iPhone Xs ... namely, the iPhone produces a tone when I receive a message, although I have set the mobile phone to "silent" with the switch. All other tones are actually muted.

It's pretty annoying because I don't want to turn the sound off completely so that no sound is produced unless the phone is muted.

Thank you in advance for your help and feedback!

best regards

Hello aleksa.i,

I see your post has not yet received a response. I am happy to give you start-up help with a few questions.

  • Is it just the sound of a specific app or is it any notifications?
  • Did you restore the iPhones from backups?
  • Have you already tried something yourself to fix the problem?
Best regards!

Hello Equinox,

Thank you for your reply!

It's about the standard "news" app. E.g. with whatsapp I don't have this problem.

I didn't create the iPhone from a backup, so errors may have carried over.

I have tried to solve the problem through settings, but so far without success.

I am therefore very grateful for any hints!

Hello aleksa.i,
thanks for the feedback and all the information.
First try to restart your device as explained here:
Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
If that doesn't help, try a forced restart:

On iPhone 8 or later: press the volume up button and immediately release it. Briefly press the volume down button and then immediately release it. Then press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

Off: iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on or is frozen - Apple Support
If none of the steps help, the ideal solution would be to reset the settings on the iPhone.
Nothing in itself is deleted, settings are reset to the standard e.g. tones, background, home screen arrangement, display brightness.
You can find this step under Settings> General> Reset> Reset All Settings.
Best regards!
