Material classification in SAP

The SAP view for classifying the material master (Fig. 1) is very special.

It does not contain direct values from one or more tables, but does contain values from several related tables.

Even if the general links are quickly explained online [1], it can be useful to learn how to navigate these tables to identify specific values and easily find those values for a group of materials.

The starting point is of course the classification view (Fig. 1) of a material (e.g. TEST_MAT on classification 001).

If you use the INOP-TABLE, link between the internal number and the object, via SE16N transaction, lookup data with your material number as the value for the Objek field.

You will then receive a value in CUOBJ. Be careful, this value can appear without leading zeros, as it did for me. In my example, CUOBJ is 92286 (Fig. 2) while the actual value for the next step is 000000000000092286.

To get the actual value, you simply need to export the results in SE16N and then display them in a spreadsheet (Fig. 3). It is now possible to copy the complete CUOBJ value.

Then go to the table AUSP (Illus. 4), characteristic values, with the previously found value with which you can fill the OBJEK field.

Make sure to also fill in the KLART field with the classification type 001 in my example symbol.

You will receive the values ATINN and ATZHL (Fig. 4) for your object, which you can then reuse in the CAWNT table.

Finally, by filling these values in CAWNT (Fig. 5), Value Texts, you will find values assigned to your material (Fig. 6).
