How to chirp CSV files

Excel: Create CSV file

Microsoft Excel

Thanks to the CSV format, you can export tables and other formatted content from Excel and re-import them without losing important settings. When importing, you adjust certain options that allow you to automatically exchange separators and punctuation marks if necessary.

How is a CSV file created?

CSV files can be created by different programs. Various email providers use this format when customers want to export their contacts and related information.
  1. You can create a table within Excel and fill it with any content. For test purposes, you should of course make sure to include a reasonably sensible structure and fill it with adapted content.
  2. Now click on the “File” tab at the top left and select “Save as” from the submenu.
  3. In the new window you can now specify a storage location and give the document a name.
  4. It is important that you select “CSV (separated by a separator)” from the drop-down menu for the file format.
  5. Then click on “Save”.
  6. The file can now be imported into Excel again, but it can also be used by various e-mail providers and Outlook.

What else is there to know?

  1. If the file has new delimiters after the export or if all contents are displayed in a single column, there was an error during the conversion.
  2. To do this, you should make sure that you select the correct format and use the text conversion wizard.
