The actress, author and politician Barbara Rütting is dead. She died on Saturday at the age of 92 in the company of her closest friends in Marktheidenfeld, as her best friend and colleague said on Thursday.

Rütting played in 45 feature films and television films. Born and raised in Brandenburg, she made her breakthrough in 1951 with her debut in the film "Postlagernd Turteltaube". Her role as "Geierwally" in the film of the same name from 1956 is legendary. She also proved her talent on many stages before she quit acting in 1984.

After acting, there was cooking

She then trained as a health advisor. She experienced a second successful career with health guides and cookbooks for whole foods - Rütting is considered a pioneer of vegetarian nutrition in Germany.

In order to achieve something socio-political, she was also involved in politics well into old age: first with the Greens, for whom she sat in the Bavarian state parliament for six years, and finally with the V-Party3 (V-Party). As age president, she opened the constituent meeting in 2003 and 2008.

Appreciation from politics

"With the death of Barbara Rütting, a politician passed away who was particularly committed to the issues of animal and environmental protection," said Ilse Aigner, President of the Bavarian State Parliament (CSU), in praise. The Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) also described her as "a committed politician who stood up for her convictions with great strength. She was a tenacious champion especially for the protection of our nature and animals."

The most emotional appreciation, however, was written by politicians from the Greens. Bundestag vice-president Claudia Roth, the state chairmen Eike Hallitzky and Eva Lettenbauer as well as the chairmen of the Bavarian parliamentary group Ludwig Hartmann and Katharina Schulze wrote: "Everything she tackled, she did with all her heart and deepest determination." Rütting was a consistent idealist. "Her commitment was a role model and an incentive for us. You don't meet someone like her a second time." According to her best friend, the funeral should take place in close circle of friends.
