How to uninstall Spybot - Search & Destroy

Spybot-S & D can be easily integrated with the Change remove- Uninstall function from Windows.

If you want to completely uninstall Spybot-S & D and change / remove does not work, you can delete the installation folder (you can usually find this under: C:\Program files\Spybot - Search & Destroy).

If you just want to upgrade the program to a newer version, delete the old version in exactly the same way as described above. The new version can then be installed.

If you have followed all of these instructions, you should restart your system for the changes to take effect completely.

Nevertheless, neither the automatic nor the manual uninstallation can delete the following folders, so this has to be done manually:

  • Windows 95 or 98: C: \ Windows \ Application Data \ Spybot - Search & Destroy
  • Windows ME: C:\Windows\All users\app data\Spybot - Search & Destroy
  • Windows NT, 2000 or XP: C:\documents and Settings\All users\app data\Spybot - Search & Destroy
  • Windows Vista: C:\ProgramData\Spybot - Search & Destroy

Remember that the application data folder is invisible. If necessary, please change your folder options! Explanation: This folder contains the backup (the isolated files) made by Sypbot-S & D. If the uninstaller deleted this folder as well, it would mean the backups would be gone. We have seen many times that users panicked and uninstalled Spybot-S & D because of a small problem, although they could have fixed the problem with a backup.
